St. John's Welcomes You!
St. John’s Welcomes You! Through invitation, inclusion, faith and action we welcome all people just as God created them. No matter where you are on your journey of faith, and whether you are single, married, divorced, separated, or partnered, our welcome knows no boundaries of age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, economic condition, physical or mental ability. We believe that God delights in the diversity of creation and so do we. If you are young or old, single or with a family (traditional or nontraditional), if you are secure in your faith or not sure if you can ever be secure in such things ... we welcome you.
We worship by celebrating at God’s table — singing, praying, and hearing thoughtful, challenging sermons. Worship brings us together each Sunday.
St. John’s has the most exquisite music. Whether it’s beautiful choral music, Dixieland, brass and tympani, or a children’s concert, St. John’s is renowned for its music and celebrated for its sermons.
Teaching that sustains the search for faith is a hallmark of life at St. John’s.
There is something for everybody. Godly Play, Pizza Club, Youth Group, Aptos Youth Retreat, Women’s and Men’s Retreats, Confirm not Conform (CnC), Adult Education and Faith Formation, discernment (Congregational Vocations Commission, or CVC) and mission trips expand hearts and minds of children, youth and grown-ups alike. Small groups engender thoughtful study; friendships flourish as we learn together.
Care
Our community of caring grows when we realize that together we are strengthened.
St. John’s has a strong Pastoral Care Team is composed of our priests and trained lay leaders which facilitates Eucharistic visitors, hospital visits, and memorial services. The Casserole Brigade brings food to those in transition (families in need) or struggling with illness, injury or grief. The Healing Team, Lay Eucharistic Ministers and our prayers for the special needs and concerns of our congregation provide a safety net of loving support when it’s needed most.

We seek to serve Christ in all people through service and seeking justice in our city and beyond.
We support food pantries, Rebuilding Together Oakland, The Faith Network (mentoring program in public schools), Sacred Space (bringing food and prayer to the homeless in Oakland), youth mission trips, and two ongoing efforts in Africa ministering to AIDS orphans. St. John's also co-founded Genesis, a community organizing effort that seeks justice in our region.
